The gatekeeper's lodge used to be located farther down the hill where Western Blvd. is now. When the road was expanded in 1994 the city of Raleigh decided to save the bungalow from demolition by dragging it up the hill to its current location. Empty and rundown now, the lodge used to house Dix's gateskeepers whose jobs it was to monitor the comings and goings of the hospital. I'm intrigued by the building as the marker between the inside world (Dix) and outside world.
