In 1837 Dr. W.A.F. Browne envisioned the future of the insane asylum “…A spacious building resembling a palace… airy, elevated, and elegant… All is clean, quiet, and attractive.” The Dix cemetary overlooks the Raleigh skyline and houses the graves of some 2000 patients who died at Dix between 1856 & 1973 and were never claimed by their families. |
