my process:

I begin by taking black and white photographs. I transfer small details of the photos (textures, windows, doors) directly onto the canvas using an polymer emulsion transfer process. Other details are added by hand with graphite, conte crayon, wax, and ink. Acrylic paint is applied in thin glazes and color is built up in many layers.

 statement:

My work explores architecture as cultural landscape and seeks to find the fingerprints of tradition in contemporary scenes. By looking at buildings I can observe and understand the people who live (or have lived) there. I am interested in the way houses remain separate, self-contained units and yet are all connected physically through power, cable and phone lines and more broadly as members of communities.
